Collaborating for Peace: Ensuring Orderly Protests in Lagos State

As part of my discussions with various groups and stakeholders ahead of the planned nationwide protests, I met today with civil society representatives and empowerment organisations to discuss the urgent need for peace in Lagos State.

I stressed that the state government fully recognises and respects the people's right to freedom of expression. However, such expression of opinion must be within the framework of the law. It is important to maintain order and peace, especially in the face of potential unrest.

I called on civil society organisations to play their part to ensure that all protests are peaceful and orderly. "Memories of the wanton destruction of public and private property during previous protests are still fresh in our minds and I strongly believe that we must all avoid a repeat of such incidents.

I look forward to our joint efforts to create an enabling environment where citizens can express their views without resorting to violence and chaos.

I believe that together, we can work towards a peaceful and prosperous Lagos State."
